Head Lice or DANDRUFF?
HOW do you know THE DIFFERENCE
Head Lice and Dandruff can appear to be very similar, but if you know what to look for it is easy to tell one from the other.
Head lice and dandruff can have many of the same symptoms which usually include an itchy and irritated scalp.
Head lice will produce eggs which are called nits and they can be similar in color to the flakes caused by dandruff.
Here is how to tell the difference.
- nits will attach to the hair itself while dandruff flakes can be on the scalp and hair
- dandruff flakes will slide easily off hair fibers
- nits are only found on the hair fibers
- dandruff flakes will tend to be yellowish in color
- nits are teardrop-shaped
- If you look with a magnifier or glasses you can see the difference
If you find Head Lice in the hair they can be very difficult to remove completely. On top of that they can be transferred from one family member to another primarily through head to head contact. You can try and comb out the nits and the live activity but there are professional lice treatment centers which will take care of everything for you. They can treat both the live activity (louse) and the eggs (nits) using a combination of hand combing and sufficant solutions that will ensure that you and your family will be lice free. Most companies offer a 100% guarantee. Trying to treat yourself and your family using over the counter products can be costly, time consuming, harmful to the hair and scalp and have very limited success rate.
